NOISE
Video, 2012
In the video Noise, numerous ants move across a white surface. A stationary camera records their movements. The visual noise of analogue television, colloquially referred to in German as Ameisenkrieg (»ant war«), finds its literal counterpart here in living protagonists. The ants’ random movements evoke the flickering of a television screen with a disrupted signal. At the same time, their mediated representation transforms them into swarming actors whose seemingly aimless activity creates an unsettling effect.
