NTM-PARK
Festival centre, 21. Internationale Schillertage Mannheim, 2021
Situation Room
Urban parks are important publicly accessible spaces where the diversity of urban society becomes tangible. For the 21st International Schiller Days at the National Theatre Mannheim, held under the theme »Together«, Situation Room designed a festival centre in the form of a park landscape, the NTM-Park.
Two kiosk structures framed the artificially created landscape. Their design drew on Persian and Egyptian kiosk architecture, as well as the advertising aesthetics and functions of contemporary kiosks. Through the architectural structures, the constructed landscape, and large-scale lettering in different languages, the theatre forecourt opened up to the city's diverse communities. In doing so, the installation highlighted the inclusive potential of urban public spaces. Drawings by Dan Perjovschi added playful political accents at a former bunker entrance on the site. The NTM-Park thus became a place for play, relaxation, and gathering, as well as a stage for concerts and artistic interventions.
